BAB AL SHAMS, DUBAI

per person

Bab Al Shams, which means Sun Gate in Arabic, is a hotel located in the middle of the desert in the Emirates.

It's about a 40-minute drive from downtown Dubai, but well worth the detour. Perfect for sipping a cocktail or Moroccan tea in their lounge, Al Sarab, at sunset. The place is soothing and the horizon breathtaking. Live singers rock the place, and on certain days you can take a camel ride and see a hawk hunting. Every Thursday evening at 9:00 pm, a fireworks display lights up the Bab al Shams sky. 28.00 $/pers for a drink and a snack, and 49.00 $/person to spend on the weekend. At the same hotel, a restaurant called Al Hadeerah opens its doors to visitors every evening (reservations required). It features 14 different food stalls and is open-air, perfect for star gazing. The meal is accompanied by songs, oriental dances and traditional Emirati dances.
